Get to know the contemporary art scene

Vår Gård highlights its rich art history heritage, which has been a significant part of the experience and the place for over 100 years. Through exhibitions and vernissages, we get to see both contemporary artists and selected works from Vår Gård's magnificent art treasure. The exhibitions are held in the historic turn-of-the-century villa Skärtofta and in the modern Vincaféet. Each exhibition series begins with an open vernissage and an "Artist Talk" with the artist or representative. All works presented are also available for purchase. Welcome to the fascinating world of art.

Exhibition in Villa Skärtofta "Time and space for new meetings"

The exhibition series Time and Space for New Encounters takes place in Vår Gård 's oldest building Villa Skärtofta . Selected works of art from the collection are presented together with contemporary shooting stars. Dynamics, harmonies and collisions are promised in the dialogue between modern and contemporary art. The intersections shed light on the past, but also provide glimpses of an impending future.

January 14 - April 20 - Michelle Eisman & Isaac Grünewald
In the first exhibition of the year in Villa Skärtofta two works of art meet over time: the contemporary artist Michelle Eismann and Saltsjöbaden 's important modernist Isaac Grünewald. The exhibition explores the dialogue between their expressions - where Eismann's mirror-based installations and light reflections meet Grünewald's colorful tempo and idiom.

By bringing together works from Vår Gård 's collection with innovative contemporary art, a space is created where tradition and the present are intertwined. Here the viewer becomes part of the work, in the encounter between movement, color and form.

Exhibition in the Wine Café

Since the Jubilee Year 2024, Vincaféet has been filled with art in various media and expressions where people's visions, thoughts and dreams take their place in a world in constant change. The exhibitions in Vincaféet change every season but have one and the same motto - visionary power. Here we highlight the importance of art at Vår Gård - in history, in the present and with an eye towards the future.

January 28 - April 20 - Alf Steinsvik
In Vincaféet's first exhibition of the year, nature photographer Alf Steinsvik shows works that capture the magnificence of nature with a quiet, poetic expression. Through images from three places that mean a lot to him - Northern Norway, Saltsjöbaden and Vilnius - Steinsvik weaves together the local and the global, the small-scale and the monumental.

His photographs move between dramatic landscapes, teeming birdlife and quiet moments in nature's own rhythm, and inspire the viewer to discover the connections between places, perspectives and the presence of nature.

In 1974, Vår Gård 's 50th anniversary was celebrated. As an anniversary gift, Vår Gård "Globe in a Cube" signed by Einar Höste, one of the foremost concretists of the time. Symbolically, Höste's artistry stands for a longing to escape from the enclosed cube. This year, 50 years later, the contemporary shooting star Miriam Johannesson continues Höste's visions through a brand new group of pearlescent metal sculptures, specifically created for the site and the 100th anniversary.

January 22 - April 15 - Kristin Larsson & Endre Nemes
We start the year by exploring the meeting between glass artist Kristin Larsson and painter and sculptor Endre Nemes. "A place to be happy" is a collage by Endre Nemes, donated to Vår Gård 50 years ago to celebrate half a century. This year, Vår Gård a new century and is giving new life to its art collection. The exhibition is a dialogue between Endre Nemes and glass artist Kristin Larsson, both with strong connections to Gustavsberg, where Nemes developed enamel art and Larson today has her studio. Through their works, they explore memories, collecting and history in different ways.

April 15 - August 21 - Ida Nätterberg & Gustaf Lindgren
We focus on Architect Gustaf Lindgren's masterpiece, Skärtofta, and contemporary ceramist Ida Netterberg who contributes a site-specific artwork in the garden inspired by ornaments from Skärtofta. Netterberg, who received her master's degree from Konstfack in 2023, examines in her work the significance of ornaments and man's relationship to nature - a tribute to the building's rich history and detailed design language.

2025/ 2026

August 23, 2025 - January 8, 2026 - Anna Charlotte Rosenberg Bosten & Inger Sarin
An exhibition where contemporary fiber art meets historical textiles in a quiet conversation about patience, time and the rhythm of nature. The works are woven together around the theme The Four Elements and invite contemplation, presence and reflection. Through traceable materials, plant dyeing and embroidery, a dialogue is created between the past and the present – where slow craftsmanship takes its place in a world that moves ever faster.

Rosenberg Bosten is a textile artist and designer with international exhibitions behind her. She works with the rhythms of nature, plant dyes and traceable materials. Inger Sarin (1931–2024) renewed textile expression with strong feeling and a desire to experiment – and her embroideries vibrate with life, symbolism and tactile power.

2025/ 2026

October 4, 2025 - January 16 - Peace Parks 2026
Through painting and photography, the artists Karin Holmström and Jytte Fredholm Ferreira take us to Botswana, where the encounter with the wild becomes art. They set out together in the African wilderness, for several weeks in a tent, without knowing each other before and completely without connection to the outside world. There they encountered nature at really close range - but also themselves. They came home with strong, almost spiritual experiences, which have grown into a unique art project.

The project was initiated by the Peace Parks Foundation, a non-profit organization that works across borders in southern Africa to protect animals and nature, train park rangers and strengthen local communities through ecotourism and sustainable development. Wild in Africa was shown in Hagaparken and the Butterfly House in the summer of 2025 and has now landed in Saltsjöbaden 's own living room through a collaboration with Vår Gård . 20% of the profit from each sold work goes directly to the Peace Parks Foundation's important work.
